International Women's Day

March is Women’s History Month; today is International Women’s Day. Sorry, but the very idea of those things is sexist. Men don’t have their history month, and whites don’t have theirs like blacks, which is racist as well. Being of an “ostracized” group does not make one untouchable (as I’ll freely admit as an autistic), which is still a problem in America and the rest of the world, which falls in line with Paulo Freire’s warning that “oppressed” groups risk becoming oppressors themselves, as has often been the case throughout history (like various communist dictatorships, even Nazi Germany since the Nazis themselves were an oppressed political faction during the 1920s). I support the equality of everyone, not the favoritism or supremacism of specific groups, and from what I’ve seen, said groups are often full of hateful bigots themselves. If you educate a man, you educate an individual; if you do so with a woman, you’re just educating another person, nothing more.

There actually is an International Men's Day - November 19th. But... it seems largely ignored, and I get the feeling that we would be mocked and ridiculed for celebrating it.

As for white holidays... there kind of are, but they're more specific. The reason St. Patrick's day is such a big deal here (but not in Ireland) is because it's an Irish pride day. The Irish were treated very, very poorly through much of American history. Same goes for Italians with Columbus day.

I'm definitely aware of the sordid treatment of the Irish throughout history within and without the US. The Native Americans in the United States had it bad as well (which I think the phrase in the Declaration of Independence "merciless Indian savages" foreshadowed), but oddly, no one seems to care today, and it seems that those today who protest inequality and injustice pretty much cherry-pick in regards to history.

Yup... there's a meme that's made the rounds on Facebook a few times. People are standing around in big piles of... well, shit.

A couple of them are making a big deal of the fact that their piles tend to be slightly higher than one person's pile. The one person says, "shouldn't we be more concerned about the fact that we're all standing in piles of shit?"

They accuse him of deflecting and the like.

Yeah, as far as I'm concerned, all suffering of particular groups is equal. Drowning in five feet of water is just as tragic as drowning in twenty.
