I think the prequels made Obi-wan's plan even worse, because while it seems like his A New Hope costume was supposed to be some kind of crazy desert hermit robes, putting Yoda in the same clothes in Empire Strikes Back and then making them the official Jedi robes in the prequels means that not only did he keep his surname and pick Vader's home planet as the hiding place, he did all while openly dressed as a Jedi.
