I've always liked the theory that Anakin used the Force to draw on Padme's life energy to survive his injuries on Mustafar and the subsequent cyberization procedure, thus killing her. The droids can't explain why she's dying because machines have no connection with the Force. Palpatine wasn't lying--Anakin really did kill her.
