I like the Rankin/Bass one better than the Peter Jackson Hobbit films. The Hobbit feels more targeted towards younger viewers and the R/B film could portray a character without it being a contradiction in terms to the later stories of Lord Of The Rings.
What I mean by that is Gollum. In LOTR, its clear he's not meant to be this intimidating creature of the night, just a poor soul destroyed by the power of the ring. In The Hobbit, he's a monster that Bilbo has to overcome. The Jackson Hobbit went with the former which I don't think meshes well with The Hobbit whereas the Rankin/Bass Hobbit did portray him as a monster.
